The Landings and Lake Estates are two wonderful north east Fort Lauderdale subdivisions and exclusive, gated Bay Colony is at the north end of the neighborhood. All of the 364 lots in The Landings and Lake Estates have some touch of waterfront; most have at least 80' or more. In the early to mid 1960's developers; Burt Haft and Jack Gaines (Haft-Gaines) were the developers of this
fabulous area; including the Landings, exclusive and private, gated Bay Colony and
wildly popular Imperial Point on the west side of US 1.
On the east side of Bayview Drive are the larger deep water properties which enjoy no fixed bridges, wide canals and generous turning basins. These lots are typically 8,000 sq.ft. or larger with waterfront point lots generally over 200' on water. The Intracoastal front point lots are magnificent with
most offering well over 200' on the water; usually with protected
dockage up the side canal. The views of Lauderdale by the Sea homes on
the opposite side are superb as are the soaring views north on the Intracoastal to the exclusive, gated
Sea Ranch Lakes homes and estates. The quality of Haft-Gaines homes resounds throughout these neighborhoods with most of their original homes standing. Most of these original homes have been updated, renovated and modified. Several of the original ranch type homes have been torn down and replaced by multi story mini mansions. These homes are bounded by Bayview Drive to the west, the Intracoastal Waterway to the east, NE 52nd Street to the south and NE 59th Street to the north. North of NE 59th Street is the exclusive, private and gated Bay Colony enclave.
Bounded by US 1 on the west side to Bayview Drive on the east side, from NE 55 Street north to NE 62 Street (Bayview Drive as it turns west) lies Lake Estates. This lovely community of mostly waterfront homes have lots that are approximately 8000 sq. ft.; typically with 80
on the water if the lot is waterfront. This little neighborhood has 3 fixed bridges 2 of which have clearance of approximately 10.5' depending on tide; one at NE 55 Street (Welcome Passage) and one at Bayview Drive (Landings Inlet) just north of Commercial Boulevard. The third fixed bridge is at the northern end of the community at NE 59 Street, clearance here is limited to approximately 5' or a bit less at high tide. This limits the properties on the north side of NE 59th Street to small motorboats, kayaks, canoes and paddleboards.
This is a most lovely area of well manicured properties generally $500,000+ on either side of Bayview Drive. The streets are tree lined with low traffic on the side streets which are all cul de sac or dead ends. For those with children, there are some very popular private schools close by; Pine Crest, Westminster Academy, Christ Church, St. Mark's and Cardinal Gibbons to name a few. Only about 20 minutes to downtown Fort Lauderdale from here and a quick 10 minute bike ride to the beautiful beaches of Lauderdale by the Sea. Restaurants, boutiques, cafes and coffee shops are plentiful and only a short walk from home. Grocery shopping, malls and just about whatever you can think of is usually no more than 15-20 minutes away.
This is one of my favorite areas in Fort Lauderdale. I am looking forward to introducing it to you, or if you are already aware, I'm looking forward to hearing how I may assist you in selling your home, or choosing another to purchase.
