Flagler Village ~ FAT Village & MASS District

Flagler Village Our “Live/Work/Play Community where housing, business, arts & technology can thrive…”

Flagler Village is only steps away from downtown Fort Lauderdale, Las Olas Boulevard, and the historic Riverfront area. It is here that you will notice a landmark revival of a once bedraggled, unkempt, and forgotten neighborhood of small homes and warehouses. Historic Flagler Heights has undergone a major overhaul to become one of the most innovative and trend setting areas in Broward County. Flagler Village encompasses 151 acres of what is the eastern portion of the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Community Redevelopment Area, was merely a dream to the developers who began to purchase and assemble properties in the downtrodden neighborhood some years ago.

The boundaries of Flagler Village are Broward Boulevard on the south end, north to Sunrise Boulevard on the north end, and from US 1 (Federal Highway) west to the East Coast Railway Corridor.

Flagler Village has become more and more pedestrian friendly with shaded sidewalks, benches along the way and a few beautifully landscaped parks with play areas. This exciting newly revitalized area is where many of our most renowned artists, advertising agencies and web developers can be found. Pocket parks and urban gardens are “sprouting” throughout the neighborhood as the fabric of this completely diverse community continues to grow and develop into one of Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s most vibrant areas.

The very first project was Avenue Lofts, a trend setting initiative to be sure. This was basically “the cornerstone” of what would grow into our Flagler Village. Avenue Lofts was the result of the creative mind of one of Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s most prominent developers, Alan Hooper is a native resident. Alan is very respectful of our history, incorporating brick facades from the 1920’s and those along the Florida East Coast Railroad tracks, into his new buildings and landscapes. Incorporating the old with the new – preserving a bit of history and revitalizing the downtown Fort Lauderdale historic areas. Alan Hooper and his architect for many of the new loft projects in the Village, Mike Krupnick “are not looking at the buildings individually, but at the Flagler Village as a whole composition” new streets, sidewalks, lighting, and a whole new ambiance are planned as this “Live/Work/Play Community” begins to “come into its own”. As the Flagler Village Community grows; two fabulous areas within, each with their own vibe have come to life, improving the exposure, success and diversity of the community.

The western most section (about 4 blocks) of the neighborhood is called FAT Village™ – Flagler Art & Technology Village. The borders are NW 6th Street on the north side, to NW 4th Street on the south side, and from North Andrews Avenue on the east side, to the railroad tracks on the west side. Property owners Doug McCraw and Lutz Hofbauer created FATVillage™ Arts District to rally philanthropic support around sustaining an artist community. Stroll around the village, walk by the Flagler Village Community Garden and see how you can be part of this awesome addition to our neighborhood, make new friends, be inspired, visit a wonderful selection of our local artist studios, playhouses and if you’re lucky, catch an impromptu puppet show. Enjoy the fabulous variety of purveyors at Sistrunk Marketplace. Delectable food and beverage choices along with live music many evenings!! Another fantastic addition to this vibrant area!

MASS (Music and Art South of Sunrise) District is located in the Northern section of Flagler Village. This is basically between NE 4th Ave and NE 8th Street to Sunrise and US 1. This trendy area is the brainchild of local creatives & businesses with a vested interest in the community & economic development of Fort Lauderdale through the arts.

It’s official, Flagler Village has a great vibe. There’s a great spirit in this trendy village and the merchants and neighbors who have begun to live and thrive here just love its uniqueness. The energy in the redevelopment and planning of this pedestrian friendly, integrated “Live/Work/Play Neighborhood” is absolutely infectious!
